It is really enticing to get healthy meals delivered right to your house. Less food shopping, less throwing away food you don’t cook, new recipes to try out. But does it save you money?
It depends on a lot of things.
To start, look at breaking down the per meal/per person cost:
The top 2 meal delivery services- Hello Fresh and Blue Apron range from $7.50/pp/per meal to $9.99/pp/per meal depending on how many people you are serving and how many meals per week you want.
Let’s start with feeding 2 adult people at $15 a meal.
$15 for meal service < eating out.
$15 for meal service > cooking yourself (ie a box of pasta, sauce, and a veggie would cost you about $8 and you’d have enough for 2 meals).
1.If you've been overspending on eating out, give meal delivery a shot.
2. If you have been using Hello Fresh or Blue Apron, check out some of the cheaper options out there like Dinnerly or EveryPlate at $5 a serving. Better yet try them all and take advantage of their signup/first box offers :)
3. If you have been cooking at home, you may be saving the most but could try some of the first box offers:)
